Hola!  We have decided to keep a blog about our new life in Santiago, Chile where we have just moved, from St Kilda, Australia.  As we seem to uproot our life every few years, we figured it would be nice to have a central place to collect memories and interesting and/or embarrassing experiences.  Travel and change seem to be a constant theme in our lives – a few combined family statistics:

  • 3 nationalities
  • Speak 4 languages
  • Worked on 4 continents
  • Lived in 10 cities
  • Travelled to 39 countries

We’ll be posting about work life, family life, and experiences about getting started and living in Santiago, Chile.

  1. Hi Aly, are you still living in Santiago? My husband are moving there in July 2014 and I came across your blog “googling” some of the questions that are running through my head as we get ready for the move from Australia. One of the big ones I have is about kitchen appliances … The voltage is compatable, but would you recommend bringing them with us? Are there any new apartments in providencia, or are there mostly older ones in this area?!

    • Hi Colleen – yup, we still live here and are really liking it. Kitchen appliances, we brought all of ours (except for the oven), and as it was the same voltage everything worked here. Appliances are very expensive here, so it’s worth bringing them if you’re shipping your furniture anyway. So yes, bring with! We only lived in Providencia a little bit until we found our house, but I assume there are some new apartments (or really nicely renovated older apartments) there scattered throughtout. The gorgeous new apartments I’ve seen are in the El Golf area (Lower Las Condes) – it’s a great area to live with lots of cafes, restaurants, shops, etc.

  2. It’s great to hear that all of your appliances work there! And thank you for the tip to look into the lower las condes area. We are getting so excited to make the move!! Thanks again 🙂
